Physically based cold regions river flood prediction in data?sparse regions: The Yukon River Basin flow forecasting system

چکیده
The Yukon River Basin (YRB) is one of the most important river networks shared between Canada and United States, largest basins in subarctic region North America. Canadian part YRB characterized by steeply sloped, partly glaciated mountain headwaters that generate considerable runoff during melt glaciers seasonal snowcover. Snow redistribution, snowmelt, glacier freezing–thawing soil processes winter spring along with summertime rainfall-runoff evapotranspiration are thus key components streamflow generation basin, making conceptual models unsuitable for this cold region. Due to remote high latitudes altitudes there a paucity observational data, heavily calibrated modeling approaches infeasible. At request Government, project developed operationalized forecasting system several its tributary rivers using distributed land surface approach large-scale implementation regions. This represents substantial advance bringing operational hydrological first time. experience will inform future research operation improvements as develops nationally coordinated flood forecast system.

Cold‐regions river flow observed from space
[1] Knowledge of water‐surface velocities in rivers is useful for understanding a wide range of lotic processes and systems, such as water and ice fluxes and forces, mixing, solute and sediment transport, bed and bank stability, aquatic and riparian ecology, and extreme hydrologic events. In cold regions, river‐ice break up and the associated downstream transport of ice debris is often the most...
متن کاملRiver Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin
Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...
متن کاملWater Flow Forecasting and River Simulation for Flood Risk Analysis
The paper presents the state-of-the-art in flood forecasting and simulation applied to a river flood analysis and risk prediction. Different water flow forecasting and river simulation models are analysed. An advanced river flood forecasting and modelling approach developed within the ongoing project INFROM is described. It provides an integrated procedure for river flow forecasting and simulat...
متن کاملModeling Flood Inundation Induced by River Flow and Storm Surges over a River Basin
Low-lying coastal regions and their populations are at risk during storm surge events and high freshwater discharges from upriver. An integrated storm surge and flood inundation modeling system was used to simulate storm surge and inundation in the Tsengwen River basin and the adjacent coastal area in southern Taiwan. A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model with an unstructured grid was used, wh...
متن کاملIndia: Flood Management - Damodar River Basin
Information is provided about the approach and experience in flood management in the Damodar river basin of India. This is achieved through a scheme for the integrated operation of a number of reservoirs on that river and on its tributaries for the purpose of irrigation, hydropower generation and flood protection. Of particular interest is the recent change in policy towards a multi-disciplinar...
